Live Report

Pour la première fois de mon histoire, je me tape 5h de routes pour voir une première partie. C’est ainsi que j’arrive à Bourg-en-Bresse, entouré par la neige, à quasiment 0°C !
Ici à la « Tannerie », l’icône du black métal a choisi un allié de poids : CHTHONIC, emblème Thaïlandais de la scène black métal. C’est pas tous les jours qu’on les voit, et là ils sont là pour défendre leur dernier opus : « Bu-Tik ».

Le groupe arrive sur scène avec « Arising Armament », l’intro du dernier album, avec tenues de scène, maquillage, certains novices du public apprécient ! Le groupe n’enchaine pas tout de suite sur « Supreme Pain for The Tyran », mais avec « Sail into the Sunset Fire » qui met une bonne claque ! Le charismatique Freddy Lim tient le public dans sa main et fait un très bon boulot de frontman, il nous impressionne d’ailleurs en jouant de l’erhu.
Jesse nous livre un show carré et puissant, et le son est impeccable, le groupe s’en donne à cœur joie sur des classiques comme « Next Republic » ou « Southern Cross ».
Freddy nous annonce aimer la France, quel plaisir ! Le public hurle en guise de remerciement, ça fait chaud au cœur ! Le groupe aura même droit à un petit circle pit.
La belle Doris Yeh headbang sans discontinuer et donne envie de tout simplement faire pareil. CJ Kao et son masque sont un peu en retrait mais son travail au clavier apporte beaucoup, au son et au visuel. Après avoir exécuté les très bons « Defenders of Bu-Tik Palace » et « Takao », le groupe est obligé de nous quitter après seulement 30 minutes de show.
Je me console en me disant que je peux les rencontrer au merch dans quelques minutes après quelques bières !

For the first time in my life, I go through a 5 hours road trip just to watch an opening act. Thus, at Bourg-en-Bresse, surrounded by snow, I’m finally at “La Tannerie” where black metal icon Satyricon has brought a loud ally: CHTHONIC, emblem of the Taiwanese black metal scene. We don’t have the chance to see a lot in Europe, and they’re here to defend their latest album: “Bu-Tik”.

The band enters on “Arising Armament”, the latest album’s introduction, dressed up and with makeup, something that the crowd seems to appreciate! To my great surprise, the band doesn’t play “Supreme Pain for The Tyran” right now but “Sail into the Sunset Fire”, and what a blast!! Freddy Lim, the charismatic frontman, holds the crowd in his hands. Moreover he impresses us by playing erhu on stage.
Jesse gives us a powerful and great show, and I have to say that the sound is really great! It’s very appreciable, and the band enjoys playing songs like “Next Republic” or “Southern Cross”.
Freddy announces that he loves France! What a pleasure! The public screams to say “Thank you”! There will even be a circle pit!
The show goes on while the beautiful Doris Yeh doesn’t stop headbanging, and we follow her movements. CJ Kao, and his great mask, is a little stepped back but he’s doing a good job on the sound and the visual.
After having played the great “Defenders of Bu-Tik Palace” and “Takao”, the band has to leave the stage after only 30 minutes. But I try to put the things into perspective: I’ll meet them after the show… and some beers!
Thanks to them for having sailed into the Sunset Fire… No! Thank you for coming to France! See you next time!
